| Bollywood has come a long way from ‘Raja Harishchandra’,
its first silent movie released in 1913 and ‘Alam Ara’, its first talkie
in 1931 to the Oscar-winner ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ in 2009. In almost a
century of its journey, Bollywood movies have experimented with
practically every genre trying out a great variety in terms of scripts,
music, choreography, action sequences and techniques. From the emotion-charged and sensitive movies portraying larger-than-life characters, melodious music, classical dances, heart-touching lyrics, subdued love-scenes and almost non-existent techniques, Bollywood movies have graduated to depicting characters with grey shades, racy and synchronized music, westernized dances, lyrics appealing to youngsters, passionate love-scenes and latest techniques. Today, Hindi Movies have emerged as a powerful industry, since Bollywood is second only to Hollywood. Its latest offering ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ has created history by winning an astounding figure of 8 awards at the recently held 81st Academy Awards. Hopefully, there will be no looking back for Bollywood. Bollywood Movies With the changing time, Bollywood movies also have changed to bring wide range of subject centric movies than the typical Saas, Bahu, Sasural and love story. The advancement in technology has allowed Bollywood to try out with a lot of different options and try reaching the heights of international standard in making and providing movies. The thing which has still not changed in any of the Bollywood movies is the songs which are necessary part of a movie. The songs in Bollywood movies depict the emotions, happiness, anger, situation, enthusiasm, strength etc. related to the movie. As the story progress, the songs are played to capture the mood and situation of the movie. This is also one of the way through which Indians connect them with the movies at large and that’s also a great way of entertainment as Indians concerned per say. The uses of famous songs are not limited to marriages, parties, discos, election rallies, festivals, Cricket, Pujas, at religion spots, but also they are played on beetle shop, in restaurants, on promotions, over picnic spot etc. That means that if any Bollywood movie song becomes famous, it there on everyone tongue and everyone’s mind. The recently release Delhi 6 “Mazakali” song has created a big hit and since then whenever anyone spot out any pigeon, they call it by “Mazakali”. Not only this The songs like “Pappu can’t dance sala” from “Jane Tu Ya Jane Na” and “Haule Haule se Hawa Chalti hai” from “Rab ne Bana di Jodi” have made the movie hit long before they reached to the theatre. Whether the words are meaningful or not, or are they well understood or not, as long as the rhythm is set right with a great music, the song and the movie both are on. |
